Frequently Asked Questions
I thought when I was done with being a teenager, I was done with acne. Why am I breaking out as an adult?
Adults can develop acne later in life for many reasons: stress-induced hormones; pregnancy-induced hormones; childbirth; menopause; or stopping the pill.
Is washing my face doing enough to address my blemishes?
Cleansing your face alone will not clear up blemished skin.. But keeping your skin clean with a wash and/or toner are first important steps in clearing dirt and oil build-up out of pores so they don't clog up and lead to break-outs. Exfoliating your skin is also important to get rid of dead skin cells which can mix with dirt and also clog pores. Also important, is keeping your skin moisturized. Dehydrated skin produces dead skin tissue on the surface of your face which in turn clogs pores.
I’m not 16 anymore… Is there a way to reduce the appearance of blemishes and fight signs of aging?
Yes! Amalou Skin™ was developed with anti-aging peptides and anti-oxidants like grape seed oil and green tea extract, as well as blemish fighting ingredients. We believe your skincare should multi-task, just like you do.
What is Melasma?
Melasma (also known as "The Mask of Pregnancy" or "Chloasma") is dark-tan or brown discoloration of the skin, most commonly found in patches on the forehead, upper-lip, cheeks and nose. Melasma is common in pregnant women or those taking contraceptives or hormone replacement therapy (HRT) medications. Hormones like estrogen and progesterone, as well as other factors like sun exposure are thought to cause the occurrence of Melasma.
How do I prevent Melasma?
Avoid the sun and use sunscreen with both UVA and UVB protection. There are also treatments like laser treatments; Azelaic Acid (20%); and chemical peels. You should always consult your doctor before engaging in any type of treatment.
Is Amalou Skin™ an organic or all-natural skincare line?
Amalou Skin™ is formulated with many beneficial natural ingredients but it is not an organic or all-natural skincare line.
Are "natural" products inherently safe for pregnancy?
Many people think that all organic or natural products are safe to use during pregnancy. This is not always the case. Some natural ingredients – like willow bark, which is a natural source of salicylic acid – may be advised against during pregnancy. Always consult your doctor before using any product, including ours.
